Friendly Competition Between UAEU & Oman Dates Back 25 Years
Based upon the good relations between United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), a group of students from UAEU were invited participate in an eventful Sports Open Day that was organized by SQU in Muscat, Oman. This fast paced event witnessed the participation of around 500 students from Omani public and private universities who battled it out in a variety of sports activities and events.
Mr. Ibrahim Mukhtar, Manager of Sports Activities at UAEU stated that, “The participation of the University in this Sports Day is part of the joint cooperation between the two universities, which dates back more than twenty-five years. Twelve top athletes from UAEU competed in the following sports: football, volleyball, basketball, swimming, tennis, athletics and others.”
“We were very delighted by the warm reception and hospitality shown to us by H.E. Dr. Ali Bin Saud Al-Bemani, Vice-Chancellor of SQU, and the organizing committee. Such events emphasize the significance of the role of sports which is a strategic priority and falls under one of the objectives of the MoU between the two universities,” he added.
The UAEU students were delighted to participate and expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude to both universities. Yusuf Mohamed Mansouri, a student from UAEU said, “Overall it allowed us to establish a good network of relationships, share experiences with neighboring universities, in addition to developing our sport skills.”
The students Mohsen Saleh Hamid and Omar Abu Bakr stated, “Because of the large number of participants, the students were divided into groups, each group had approximately 70 students. Competitions were fair and the atmosphere was overwhelming. It was a special day for all students involved.”
