UAEU and NYU Abu Dhabi Cooperate to Train UAE’s Future Leaders
H.E. Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), met Dr. Diane Yu, Deputy President of New York University (NYU), USA. During the meeting, they explored the various cooperation aspects between the two universities especially the scholarship of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for Leadership Skills which is annually organized at NYU Abu Dhabi. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, UAEU Provost and Chief Academic Officer, Prof. Robert Whelan, UAEU Deputy Provost and Mrs. Angela Migally, Deputy Director, Scholarship of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for Leadership.
The two parties explored methods of cooperation between the two universities related to the scholarship. NYU hosts the annual scholarship event and selects distinctive students from UAEU, Zayed University and Higher Colleges of Technology. The comprehensive and precise scholarship provides various experiences to develop leadership and personal skills of the students. The program also focus on critical thinking as well as other cultural and scientific aspects.
Ms. Angela Migally, described during her presentation the scholarship, the expertise and skills offered for students, along with the standards and criteria required for the applicant. The presentation was attended by the students who participated in the scholarship last year and students who desire to apply for the current year.
Ms. Maha Al Dhaheri, student at UAEU Architectural Engineering Department and participant at the scholarship last year, said "The scholarship provided me with many opportunities for a bright future. Applying for this program was one of my best decisions I've taken as a senior student as well as in my life. I can see now the positive impact of the skills I gained from the program in my scientific and practical life. Therefore, I'm very grateful for Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as well as those who participated in the success of this program and who continue offer opportunities for future leaders."
The program also offers the student the chance to travel to the USA (New York and Washington) to explore the diversity of cultures and views as well as meeting leadership and political figures while studying different courses including Foreign Policy, Political Power, and Leadership and Administrative Skills.
Ms. Badriya Mohamed Al Menhali, student at the College of Business and Economics, UAEU and candidate of the program for this year, said "There is no other program of leadership in UAE that can compete with this program. It is considered as an integrated program which forms the personality of future leaders. In terms of time, it lasts for one year to ensure that it does not affect the students study plan. I hope to be one of the lucky students selected to participate in this year’s scholarship.”
