UAEU to Establish a College of Graduate Studies
In order to further the growth and enhance the quality of the UAEU’s graduate studies sector, the University Council of the United Arab Emirates University has recently approved the establishment of a College of Graduate Studies that will oversee the design and delivery of all Masters and Doctoral level degree programs at UAEU.
The College of Graduate Studies will serve as an advocate for graduate education and research within and outside the University; establish policies and procedures in compliance with the best practices of the Council of Graduate Schools and other internationally recognized organizations to guarantee that the graduate-level learning experience is of the highest quality; foster and facilitate interdisciplinary/intercollegiate graduate learning and research activities; initiate and maintain an intellectual and professional environment that values and supports creative, scholarly, and scientific inquiry; serve the nation’s need for a well-educated and professionally-trained work force; educate qualified men and women to become competitive and capable of enjoying rewarding careers in government, academia, and the private sector; and respond to the growing needs of the UAE and the world for the extension of knowledge in all disciplines, and the development and dissemination of best practices in all professions.
H.E. Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) stated, “Following the vision of Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, of developing the higher education and scientific research in UAE, and carrying on the plan for UAEU to become the 21st century university in the scientific research , UAEU paid special attention to graduate studies and research activities within its strategic planning programs.”
Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, UAEU Provost & Chief Academic Officer, commented, “One of the major purposes of the establishment of a College of Graduate Studies is the creation of a modern organizational model to conduct the business of a Graduate School, including the development of the necessary structure to implement quality programs. The Graduate College will be instrumental in assessing admission standards and ensuring that graduation standards are in place. In addition to this the Graduate College will facilitate a systematic review for all academic programs.”
Professor Sehamuddin Galadari, Vice Provost of Research and Graduate Studies, UAEU, welcomed the decision and outlined its implementation as follows: “We are fully committed to building a College of Graduate Studies according to international best practices, in order to underline our institution’s status as the flagship of the nation’s higher education system by ensuring that the range, the quality, and the reputation of our graduate degrees matches national needs as well as international standards.”
