H.H. Commends UAEU Role in Sport Development
H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAEU Chancellor, met at his palace in Batin, Abu Dhabi, the sports delegation from United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and the winning champion "Amro Shawqi” who took 3rd place at the "Emirates Open Karate Championships", and 2nd place in the "Indiviaul Komtehe" for his distinctive performance at the International Karate Championship of Al Ahly Sports Club organized under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.
H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan commended the achievements of the young "Amro Shawqi" and said, "This sporting achievement reflects the important role of Multaqa, the University Social Club at UAEU in creating a relaxed and friendly environment for university staff and their families where social and cultural interaction can occur. I would like to invite all staff in this field to intensify efforts and direct them to strengthen the social role of the educational institutions in UAE in order to continue such achievements and create an educated generation to achieve UAE mission for human investment which is one of the most important goals."
The competition witnessed the participation of 965 players representing 44 counties. Amro was also awarded UAEU Social Club (Multaqa) Cup for distinctive sportsmanship.
Mr. Yehia Shehab, Director of University Social Club (Multaqa) expressed his appreciation to H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan for welcoming the University sports delegation and for his supportive role in such events and activities.
Following the directives of UAEU senior management, Multaqa organizes daily activities to facilitate the University staff and to provide a proper environment for them and their families out of working hours. They offer a variety of sporting activities such as Football, Taekwondo, Karate , Basketball, Table Tennis and Swimming, along with organizing many social and cultural day trips.
