UAEU Korean Club Experience Korean Hospitality

In line with strengthening the mutual education and cultural relations between the UAE and South Korea, the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) Student Korean Club "Arirang" organized a trip to South Korea. The name of the Club "Arirang" is derived from a Korean folk song. The aim of the trip was to introduce students to the different cultures and traditions of the Korean natives, visit universities and build relations in the fields of education and student activities between the two countries.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al Shayeb, Dean of Students reinforced the benefits of these trips and said, "UAEU has a continuous interest in promoting student clubs and extra-curricular activities which aids in enhancing students personalities and developing their abilities.

"We are very interested in the benefits students gain from taking part in different activities such as external visits and events and have witnessed positive effects in the students’ personality and performance inside the classroom as a result in taking part in such extra-curricular activities,” he added.

Habiba Aflaton, Student and President of 'Arirang Club" who participated in the trip said, "Our trip to Korea had many advantages, the most important one was visiting Dongguk University, the top University in South Korea where we met the Vice President of the University and the Director of the International Students Department. We also visited the Arabic Language Department at the University. The University proposed a student’s exchange program between the two Universities to be submitted to UAEU for mutual benefit."

Amal Al Shehhi and Nahla Al Shehhi, students and members of Arirang, reiterated the advantages of this trip and said, "There was an immense variety of activities included in this trip which added to our knowledge and experience and involved visiting universities, museums, the school of Kimchi, wearing the traditional clothes "Hanbok", attending musical concerts in Baekseok University which was organized especially for us as well as visiting the electronic market and the highest tower in South Korea."

Expressing their appreciation to UAEU management, the students said, "We would like to convey our gratitude to the University for offering us this wonderful opportunity as well as the Tourism Authority of South Korea in Dubai and Al Bayen Holiday Company for organizing the trip. Special thanks to Ms. Sehjeong Kim, Trip Supervisor and Faculty Member at UAEU, for facilitating students visits".
